Meditation: A Way to Love Yourself

MeditatingThere isn’t enough love going around in this world. It’s no surprise – loving one another becomes an extremely difficult thing to do if, in the simplest words, people don’t know how to love themselves.

Self-love, whether in the form of going to a yoga retreat or simply having a personal day, is as important as love for another person. You can’t give others what you can’t give yourself, they say. Vagabond Temple agrees that loving yourself doesn’t happen overnight; it takes time, effort and a lot of strength to be persistent about habits that pull the attention inward. One of those habits is meditation.

Mother Knows Best

Julie Sacks, a loving wife and a dedicated mother of one, finds it difficult to care for herself. She has a busy schedule alongside her maternal duties and struggles to get a good night’s sleep. Motherhood itself becomes an obstacle in practicing self-love. What helped her alleviate her stress, anxiety and low productivity levels was meditation.

Sacks did a lot of ‘Yoga Nidra’, making sure that she practiced at least 20 to 30 minutes, which she says is equivalent to four hours of sleep. After meditating, she got through the tough days and the sleepless nights. This helped her pay more attention to the needs of her son and husband, and also her own.

Taking It a Step Further

Meditation can be done anywhere, anytime. What strengthens the body’s relationship with the soul is the immersion into the spiritual. A lot of meditation enthusiasts attend yoga seminars or go to 10-day retreats, pulling in the energy towards the self. These experiences are often the beginning of a person’s journey to strong spirituality.

A lot of negative energy revolves around the fact that people depend too much on attention from others without recognizing the goldmine within themselves. Learn to love who you are in all that you are.
